AFC JUNIOR FOOTBALL
What we offer
AFC is home to one of New Zealand's premiere Junior football programmes, the Canterbury Junior Flag Football Championship. It was the first Junior flag football competition of it's kind to be established in the country.
JUNIOR FLAG fOOTBALL
Junior flag football is for boys and girls aged 10 to 14. Flag football is a non-contact sport and offers a safe, fun introduction to American Football. No experience is necessary and we provide all of the equipment.
OUR COACHES
Our experienced coaches are all fully certified in both flag football and full contact American Football. As well as American Football, they also have many years experience coaching other sports and have a qualified first aider amongst their ranks. Their key focuses are on safety, development and enjoyment.
COMPETITION DETAILS AND FORMAT
AFC's 5-a-side Junior Flag Football Championship is played between January and April each year. Games are played on Friday evenings at Marshland Domain on Prestons Road, next to the Prestons subdivision. Optional weekly training and skills sessions are offered to all players as well. We welcome registrations from all new players, wishing to join one of our already established teams and try out a fun, new sport.
JUNIOR CONTACT FOOTBALL
Towards the end of each season, some of our older Juniors (13 & 14 year olds) train for and play in the Canterbury Junior American Football Classic. This one-off game gives our players their first taste of playing in a live, full contact game of American Football, but in a safe, controlled environment. This is one of the highlights of the Junior season with both players and parents looking forward to it each year.
