AFC SENIOR FOOTBALL
What we offer
AFC's full contact Senior competition is open to anyone aged 18 years old and over. We welcome registrations from new players who are keen to give the sport a go. No experience is necessary and the only things you'll need is a mouthguard and some boots, as we can provide you with all the other equipment you'll require for the season, including pads, helmet and a uniform.
AFC play a variation of the traditional 11-a-side game, on a slightly smaller field with only 8 players on each side. The games are shorter in length and more fast paced, making for an exciting spectacle to both play in and watch. This format also allows for the sport to be easier to learn and understand for newcomers as they are introduced to various schemes, concepts and jargon.

COMPETITION DETAILS AND FORMAT
AFC's Senior football programme runs from August through to December each year. At the beginning of each season, a fun, relaxed draft takes place, in which new players are selected into one of three teams - Bandits, Goats or Wolfpack. This is the team they will play in that season, however all three teams train together as one unit, learning the same playbook and developing connections right across the club.
Over seven weeks, the three teams will battle against each other in a round-robin competition, for a chance to win the coveted AFC Championship. Games are played on Saturday mornings at Thomson Park in New Brighton.

REPRESENTATIVE FOOTBALL
AFC has recently introduced a representative team, the Canterbury Panthers. Anyone from the Senior player base is eligible for selection in this team. It is intended that the Canterbury Panthers squad train together throughout the season, with the goal of travelling to Auckland to play in a 4 team national tournament at the conclusion of the local competition.
We are currently seeking expressions of interest from those wanting to play for the Canterbury Panthers this season. To register your interest click here.
